Best of October in Chelan

While we don’t like to pick favorites, we have to say October in Chelan is a very special month. Officially in it’s autumn glory, the Chelan Valley is bursting with rich colors, flavors, and smells that make your feel more connected to nature, and appreciate the changing seasons. This is a great month to plan a couples trip or getaway with friends (hint hint: adults-only to enjoy the many adult-only beverages!).

What is the forecast?

Sun, still. An average of just three rainy days leaves the rest of the month with mostly blue skies and sunshine that still feels toasty. The average temperatures is in the mid-60s, so being outside is perfectly pleasant.

What is there to do?

Many of the area’s outdoor activities are still available in the fall–golf, biking, boating, and hiking. But what really sets this month apart is the fall harvest. September and October are the months for apples, nectarines, beets, melons, corn, berries, onions, squash, greens–even local cheese and honey. From roadside stands to downtown restaurants to wineries and cideries, the freshest of the season is everywhere you look, and taste.

Spend time learning what makes the Valley unique, like the climate that supports over 200 acres of wine grapes and over 10,000 acres of fruit trees, or the family history behind many of the area’s small businesses. Take tours of orchards, eat truly seasonal farm-to-table meals (might we suggest our neighbor Vin du Lac Bistro for that!), and find your new favorite wine during Crush (more on that next!). For a fun way to combine getting active with getting a taste of wine, check out the Lake Chelan Electric Bike wine tours, available through October!

What events are happening?

The weekends of October 5th & 6th and 12th & 13th are official Lake Chelan Crush events. Get your hands (or feet) grape-y, taste new releases and old favorites, and find special dinners at many wineries.

Head over to stunning, secluded Stehekin (remember: accessible only by boat!) for a special Harvest Fest in the orchard on October 5th.

See some beautiful vintage boats, hydroplanes and cars at the Mahogany & Merlot show on October 4th – 6th.

Trick-or-treat downtown Chelan on Halloween, plus enter the costume contest! Fun for all ages.
