Home for the Holidays at The Lookout: Best of December in Chelan

December is a merry month, filled with festivities—but also fast-paced and just a bit stressful. Think about slowing down this year, and making time for a Chelan getaway. Whether you take a mid-month break from the madness, or celebrate a holiday at the lake, you’ll be making wonderful memories during this special time at Lake Chelan.

What is the forecast?
It’s getting chilly! Many days are bright and sunny, but with an average high of 34 degrees, December in Chelan is distinctly winter. The cold but clear weather can feel pretty amazing for those stuck in a drizzly grey cloud (cough, Seattle!)

Speaking of precipitation, we should mention….snow! There’s a good chance that snow will cover the surrounding hills, and we will see some lakeside flakes, too. In fact, December weather in Chelan almost always includes several inches of snowfall. The beauty of the Chelan Valley in the snow is something you will want to see!

What is there to do?
If you make Chelan your home for the holidays, here’s how to spend your time (in order of importance, in our opinion!)

  1. Slow down. You’re on vacation, after all! Sleep in, play games, read a book, sip wine by the fire.
  2. Enjoy the snow. Who knows when you’ll see it next? A walk around The Lookout neighborhood in the snow is lovely, with pretty colorful homes, sweeping views of the snowy mountains and lake, and sparkling lights of downtown. Or, enjoy the snow by really being in it, on skis, a sled, or snowshoes! Echo Ridge Nordic Ski area (just 10 miles from The Lookout) is an all-levels, uncrowded, extensive system of trails.
  3. Shop small. Enjoy the charm of downtown Chelan. Browse beautifully decorated shops and support local businesses with your holiday purchases. Unique gifts from Chelan are sure to delight everyone on your list.

What events are happening?
The biggest December events spill over from Thanksgiving and the last weekend in November. Small Town Christmas includes a parade, tree-lighting, Santa breakfast, live music, and fireworks, plus holiday shopping and family events downtown every weekend in December.

And wrapping up the month and year, New Year’s Eve shines in Chelan with winery events and parties, a fireworks show, and a fun tradition at Echo Valley: night skiing, tubing, bonfire, and Torchlight Parade.

At The Lookout, we’ll be partying like it’s 2020!
