Running, Biking, and Swimming Events at Lake Chelan

There’s no better place to combine fitness and competition than sunny, picturesque Chelan. The valley is home to year-round races, from established traditions to new fun races popping up every season, with events for all ages and abilities. What they all have in common is the incredible natural beauty surrounding each course. (Plus, they all support worth causes focused on youth in the Chelan region!)

Whether you’re going for fun or first place, here are a few of our favorite races:

What: ChelanMan MultiSport Weekend

With seven events to choose from, this is a major Chelan 2-day event that draws participants from all over the state. The weekend includes “first timer”, sprint, Olympic, and Half-Iron triathlons, 10K, and half marathon runs, and a family Splash-n=Dash. Since 2007, this event has been a highlight of the summer at Lake Chelan. It’s the perfect season to work up a sweat and then be rewarded with a vacation at the lake!

When: July 21 & 22, 2018
Who it benefits: 100% of the proceeds go to arts, literature, and wellness programs for youth in the Chelan Valley.

What: Lake Chelan Swim

End your summer with the ultimate dip in the lake: a 1.5 mile swim from Willow Point Park to Manson Bay Park. In its 8th year, this post Labor Day weekend tradition raises awareness of water safety and helps fun swimming lessons benefiting both residents and visitors. It’s fun for the whole family!

When: September 8, 2018
Who it benefits: Proceeds go directly to subsidizing free swimming lessons in Chelan.

What: Lake Chelan Rotary Century Challenge & Cycle de Vine

For bikers, the Century Challenge dream come true: a clover shaped route with varied length and terrain on each “leaf”, but each promising a ride through orchards and vineyards with spectacular views. This 100-mile challenge has an elevation gain of 9,600 feet.

Taking place the same day, the “redesigned” Cycle de Vine takes riders on a tour of wineries along the lake. Stop in to enjoy live music, snacks and wine tasting on your way either north or south along the route. When you’re ready to return to your starting point, get a boat ride back across the lake, a great chance to take in the scenery from another vantage point!

When: June 23, 2018
Who it benefits: Proceeds go to local causes supported by Lake Chelan Rotary.

What: Lake Chelan Shore to Shore 1/2 Marathon & 10K

“Shore to shore” is literal, as this route spans the lake from the south end in Chelan to the north side in Manson. Both routes are within feet of the clear blue water with spectacular views of the North Cascades and surrounding foothills. Runner’s Magazine has described it as one of the most scenic in the United States.

When: September 8, 2018
Who it benefits: Youth groups in the Lake Chelan, Manson and Wenatchee Valley receive contributions for their help organizing the race.

What: Running of the Grapes, 10K/5K/2.5K

Now in its second year, this event offers four vineyard runs to choose from and is on the same weekend as Spring Barrel Tasting, a great chance to wine and dash. The 2.5k run is truly about fun–kids’ running clubs, families, and even dogs are encouraged! The 5K Fun Run takes it up a notch for those wanting more distance. The 5k Vineyard Challenge has a total elevation gain of 800 feet. The 10k Vineyard Challenge is a challenge! Bragging rights and breathtaking views await those that accept one of these challenges!

When: May 19, 2018
Who it benefits: Proceeds help fund scholarships for Lake Chelan Valley students.

Our tip:

Plan your next vacation around one of these events. When you’re done, you’ll definitely want to kick up your tired feet at our hilltop pool, drink in hand!
