Winter Itinerary – Ultimate Snow Day in Chelan

When it snows in the Chelan area, it’s more than just a beautiful sight to see. It’s an opportunity to experience some of the best winter recreation in the state!

Start your day by fueling up: get coffee and a hearty 7-layer bar or egg sandwich at The Vogue downtown. Then stop by Bear Foods Market (just a few doors down) to stock up on easy-to-eat snacks, like nuts, cheese, dried fruit.

Next, decide what kind of snow adventure you’re in the mood for!

Option 1: Lay your own tracks, or follow some of the best.

Just 10 miles outside of Chelan, Echo Ridge Nordic Ski Area is an impressive system of groomed trails, favorites of locals and tourists alike. The ridge-top loops offer incredible views of the Valley, Lake Chelan, and the Stewart Mountain Range, and are often drenched in sunshine. With professionally-designed trails for all skill levels, cross-country skiers, snowshoers, skate skiers (and even dogs!) will find loops from 4 to 40 kilometers, plus a new warming hut for taking a snack break.

Option 2: Find powder without the crowds.

If you’re looking for more downhill action, Echo Valley Ski & Tubing area is the place. Also just a 20 minute drive from The Lookout, this is an small-town ski hill with no lines – but still with great snow conditions, a cozy lodge and restaurant, and a fun sledding hill. A lift ticket is only $30, including tubing!

For another ski experience, check out Mission Ridge in nearby Wenatchee. This resort is well-known for the quality of it’s snow – and the abundance of sunshine – as it’s set higher in elevation. With 36 runs over 2,000 acres, skiers and snowboarders will have an awesome day making run after run.

Option 3: Snow fun just outside your door.

A Chelan snow day can be filled with adventure without even getting in your car! At The Lookout, snow on the ground means snowball fights and snowman-building in our expansive parks, sledding down the small slopes of our wide streets, and even cross-country skiing from our hilltop into downtown Chelan via the one-mile paved trail. Or strap on some snowshoes to take a walk to the waterfront, and check out our many views of the surrounding mountains.

Whatever type of cold-weather fun your day held, you’re probably ready for a warm meal. All-day breakfast at The Apple Cup Cafe might hit the spot, or pick up pizza from Westside or Local Myth before heading back to your Lookout vacation home. Turn on the fireplace, the hot tub, or a movie to relax…and start planning your snow day for tomorrow!
