Best of March in Lake Chelan

Perhaps the best thing about March in Chelan is also the best thing everywhere in the Northwest, which is gaining an hour of daylight as we spring forward on March 8th. One more hour to get outside after work, and one more hour to stay outside on the weekends! For your vacation to Lake Chelan, it means one extra hour of all the relaxing, recharging, refreshing activities of spring.

What’s in the forecast?

We’re making an exciting jump into the 50s! (The average high is 51 degrees, but that counts!) Days will feel considerably warmer and we still expect lots of sunshine, with just 4 days of average precipitation. Ditch the hats and gloves, but keep the jacket in your suitcase. Bring your swimsuit, but for the Lookout indoor pool and hot tub, for now.

What is there to do?

Chelan is a beautiful place to celebrate the start of spring. While the mountains in the distance will still be snow-capped, the lower elevations will get progressively greener. Plus we always have our sparkling blue lake. Take in the views by…

Hiking: Trails will be uncrowded, yet busy with plants budding with new life. Pack a picnic and find a sunny spot to eat. Hiking with your dog? Check out pet-friendly trails.

Golfing: After winter hibernation, play one of the area’s seven beautiful courses as they start to open in March and April. Read our round-up of the courses and opening dates.

Fishing: Spring fishing in Lake Chelan is some of the best–and most picturesque–in the state, stocked with over 800,000 fish, many over 20 pounds. Here’s our list of where to fish for what.

Beachcombing: When the lake level lowers, it reveals beaches that are underwater most of the year. You can sometimes even walk from your Lookout vacation rental to downtown! Read more about where to find these hidden beaches.

What events are happening?

You’ll have to wait for April for the spring wine events, but if you’re a fan of a frosty mug, you’re in luck! St. Patrick’s Day will be celebrated on Saturday, March 14, starting with two events downtown: a morning fun run and a dog parade! The Shamrock Shuffle 5k starts at 9:30 and the parade starts at noon. Dress up in the whole family, including your pup, and make everyone green with envy when you win the Top Dog award. Then check out the local brewery and restaurant scene for St. Patty’s specials.
