Winter Itinerary – Girls’ Day Out

Craving a weekend getaway with your best girlfriends? You don’t have to wait for summer (though we have an itinerary for that, too!) Winter in Chelan can be cozy, delicious, adventurous, or relaxing—or all of the above! Follow our itinerary for a day exploring with your BFFs (and check out our other ideas for family funsnowy adventures, and more!)

Start by treating yourself to delicious coffee and breakfast downtown at Lake Chelan Artisan Bakery, an easy walk or bike into town (weather permitting), or just a couple minutes’ drive. Chelan native Lindsey Evans honed her skills at the popular Cinnamon Twisp bakery in the Methow Valley, and now brings her fresh goodies here along with Blue Star Coffee, an award-winning artisan coffee roasted in Twisp. We recommend an espresso paired with the bacon and mozzarella quiche, blueberry coffee cake, or a croissant.

With coffee in hand, take a stroll through the charming downtown streets. From clothing to books to craft supplies, and more, shops like Lulu Boutique & Salon, Lush, POSH, Willow, Twisted Fine Yarn, Culinary Apple, and other specialty stores will inspire you to grab gifts or pick up your own Chelan souvenir.

Before you leave downtown, walk to the waterfront park to take in the view of our 55-mile long lake. The 1-mile Riverwalk Park Loop Trail, spanning the two bridges over the Chelan River, is a nice way to enjoy the fresh air and get a little exercise before continuing your day.

When you’re ready for lunch, drive ten minutes along the south shore to Karma Vineyard’s restaurant 18 Brix. Take a seat by the cozy fireplace as you refuel – or for a one of a kind dining experience, have your meal in the wine cave (call ahead for availability).
Another lunch option is Sorrento’s at Tsillan Cellars, where you can take in an incredible view of the lake…so incredible, in fact, it was named one of the “Top Scenic View Restaurants in America” by Open Table, and so delicious it was named in the “Top 10 Winery Restaurants of Washington State” by Tasting Room Magazine.” On select Saturdays, Tsillan Cellars also hosts fashion shows supporting the local shop Main Street Gallery.
After lunch, it’s time to experience what this wine country is all about. You can start with the two above, and then move on to more wineries along the south shore: Fielding Hills, Siren Song, Tunnel Hill Winery, and Mellisoni Vineyards. In addition to learning about—and tasting—what makes the Chelan wine valley special, you can get a unique experience at many wineries during seasonal barrel tastings and special events. Siren Song even offers cooking classes, pairing their wines with delicious cuisine—from macaroons and sparkling wine to homemade pizza to a French bistro lunch. (Private classes are also available; a great option for a bachelorette parties or birthday celebrations!)
Next, head to neighboring town Manson, less than 15 minutes away! This quaint town has its own charming main street, marina and waterfront park, and amazing views, plus several nearby wineries like Cairdeas and Benson Vineyards. If you have time, spend the afternoon at Canvas by the Lake, an art studio offering “paint and sip” classes. Bring your own wine and get your creative juices flowing! (Private classes are also available.)
When you’re ready to return to Chelan, continue to enjoy the local flavor with dinner at The Fox & Quail Cafe for artisan cocktails and great food in a cozy setting. You’ll be right downtown, so end the night at The Vogue, known for coffee, wine, and great live music from local musicians, every weekend!

Time to wind down and relax? Head back to your vacation rental home at The Lookout. Warm up in the hot tub, take a snowy night walk around the hill to look at the stars, or curl up in your cottage for more wine and great conversations with your girls. What a day!
