Best of January in Chelan

The Lookout at Lake Chelan is the getaway you’ve been looking for.

With the holiday hubbub behind us and a new year ahead, some would say it’s time to get serious. But in Chelan, we’re still feeling festive. It’s hard not to when we have a snowy winter wonderland and a huge winter celebration event! While we’re all for setting goals and resolutions, we think those goals should include a Chelan vacation!

What is the forecast?

A blanket of snow often covers the mountains and the valley. The average Chelan snowfall in January is 7 inches, meaning good conditions for activities in the higher elevations—and maybe even some Lookout snowball fights, too! Make sure to pack your warmest jacket, since the average high temperature is 33 degrees. It’s winter at its best, but as always, bring your sunglasses.

What is there to do?

Glad you asked! We have winter itineraries ready for you. If it’s a rainy day, or you’re not feeling like braving the elements, check out the theater, the bookstore, or the game room in your vacation home rental. If you’re looking for family fun, don’t miss the sledding hill, the bowling alley, and the best pizza. If you’re ready for a backcountry adventure, check out the miles of trails in Echo Valley.

Around The Lookout neighborhood, you’ll find parks perfect for building a giant snowman, streets wide enough for some (slow) sledding, and outdoor firepits for toasting s’mores. Our covered Vineyard Pool is also open year-round, so you can swim and warm up in the hot tub.

What events are happening?

Oh, just one of Chelan’s most significant events of the year! For over 30 years, Chelan has hosted Winterfest, a celebration of the season with a distinctly local vibe. Every year the festivities grow while maintaining the small-town charm. From sipping drinks to taking a plunge into the lake to cheering on fireworks displays, this is a truly festive event for all ages. Check out our Winterfest blog and the schedule over the 2nd and 3rd weekends in January.

Here’s a highlight of a few of the unique activities:

Evening Snowga: An easy trek up to a hilltop, an invigorating bit of yoga, and an awesome vantage point for viewing the fireworks!

Cocoa Crawl: Kids will love their own version of a sip and stroll, sampling hot chocolate and marshmallows downtown!

Battle of the Bloody Mary: Nothing says competition like Worcestershire sauce and vodka. Taste test along with brunch and then vote for your favorite!

January in Chelan is an exciting month, so join us for fun! Book now to get your favorite vacation home or try one of our newest rental homes.
